Job Description

Ideal Candidate

  • A degree or suitable and varied work experience in relevant subject areas e.g. engineering, building management
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Health & Safety
  • City & Guilds Managing Legionella in Building Water Systems and the role of the Responsible Person
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of health and safety legislation especially in respect of legionella, asbestos and construction management
  • Experience of health & safety in an environment with complex multi-disciplinary issues
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of health and safety legislation especially in respect of legionella, asbestos and construction management
  • Experience of health & safety in an environment with complex multi-disciplinary issues

Additionally, the qualifications below would be an advantage:

  • P405 asbestos Management in Buildings, P402
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Construction Health & Safety or similar
  • Management qualification

About the position

The postholder will take the lead for the university in the safe management of both water hygiene and asbestos across the whole estate.

To do this they will

  • Be responsible for the operational management of health and safety relating to property development, refurbishment, maintenance and demolition with regard to asbestos and water hygiene compliance including legionella
  • Undertake regular reviews of compliance through inspections and provide reports to Estates and the Head of Safety, Health and Employee Wellbeing
  • Assess all tenders and specifications for asbestos works prepared by consultants
  • Maintain and operate the compliance database (Zetasafe) for water hygiene compliance and management
  • Ensure that records are kept up to date to prove our compliance, liaising with the necessary consultants and contractors as well as colleagues across the university.
