The Company

A leading contractor and maintenance company with a very strong electrical arm are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Contracts Manager / Mechanical Estimator to establish, develop and run the Mechanical department which will the company to bid successfully for larger, M&E Contracts.

The Role

To prepare competitive Mechanical estimates as required by the client, that meets their and company requirements. To manage all mechanical aspects of the department. Strategic involvement will include understanding the company’s position. You will be required to:

• Produce accurate material/equipment take-offs from drawings and or schedules.
• Review all contract documentation, including specifications.
• Liaise with suppliers / sub-contractors for quotation for material / specialist packages.
• Produce detailed estimate breakdowns for each element of the Mechanical Services package.
• Accurately price contract variations giving detailed cost breakdown of each element of work.
• Provide detailed quantified schedules of rates against estimates completed.
• Provide detailed job specific qualification schedule for each estimate completed.
• Attend site meeting with clients
• Organise labour and sub-contractors
• Produce Operating and Maintenance Manuals for completed projects.

The Successful Candidate

To be considered candidates will need to possess the following skills, attributes and experiences:

• Ideally, candidates will come from an M&E Sub Contractual background and will have experience of winning work.
• A strong mechanical background
• Knowledge of codes of practice, British Standards, CIBSE guidelines and CDM regulations.
• Awareness of environmental issues
• Organised and methodical
• Good communication skills – written and verbal
• Risk / opportunity management and solution creation.

Based in Bristol, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Engineer to be a key part of the Building Services Engineering team leadership; managing multidisciplinary projects while providing technical support and mentoring to the other Electrical Engineers, take an active role in pushing forward the skills and abilities of the electrical team members, including supervising and training junior Engineers and take an active role in building services design elements for both small and major projects working closely with other team members.

  • Being involved in feasibility, design and site stage activities of major and minor building projects (new and refurbishment).
  • Leading building projects of various sizes, taking an active role in project leadership and client facing activity.

To achieve in this role, you are likely to…

  • Have Chartered status through CIBSE, IET or other relevant body and degree qualified.
  • Have a demonstrable track record of successful delivery within an electrical services engineering role / environment including:
    o high / low voltage power design;
    o electronic building services system including fire alarm, security and PA etc;
    o lighting / emergency lighting design;
    o coordination and spatial planning of electrical services within the building;
    o strong track record of leading project teams;
    o a clear understanding of, or experience within a consultancy environment;
    o excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
    o adaptable, resilient and able to work in multidisciplinary settings;
    o excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
    o professional, organised, and highly methodical;
    o software skills including Amtech, Dialux and Strike Risk etc;
    o knowledge of relevant design tools, techniques and related methods e.g. IT systems, BIM and calculation packages etc;
    o demonstrate an active CPD record;
    o programming and resource management at project level;
    o ability to create deliverables from a project brief;
    o good knowledge of lighting design, daylighting and energy performance of buildings
    o Experienced in using CAD and Revit MEP
  • Have the ability to think outside the specialism and integrate multidisciplinary requirements into holistic coordinated solutions.
