Permanent Senior Design Manager – Building Projects
Job Description
This role represents an opportunity to work with a national construction and facilities contractor that is a subsidiary of a global company that turns over more than £2B in the UK alone. Projects undertaken span Building across a wide variety of sectors as well as civil rail and highway projects. Operating from a network of offices throughout England and Wales, the Building division has experience and expertise in all sectors, particularly health and education. There is a current requirement for an experienced Senior Design Manager to be based in the Bristol office and work on significant Building projects from £20M – £50M. The role involves coordination of all relevant design consultants and duties include:
- Establishing a platform for good communication and collaboration between relevant parties and thereby an effective flow of design and production information.
- De-risk design problems by finding solutions before they materialise.
- Contributing to planning and co-ordination in a way that adds value to the processes.
- Preparing, managing and securing all-party ownership of an integrated design programme.
- Having input into the Design Management function, processes and systems for the region.
- Subcontractor / consultant evaluation and selection.
- Recruitment of Design Managers and mentoring of staff recruited.
To be considered for this role you will require the following attributes:
- Experience as a Design Manager for main contractor on £20M+ projects.
- An all-round basic knowledge of the construction and property industry.
- A good grasp of the technical aspects of design and construction matters, systems and processes.
- An understanding of planning applications, building regulations, codes of practice, environmental and health and safety regulations.
- Planning and programming skills.
- Legal, commercial and contractual knowledge.
- Negotiating and people skills.
- Presentation skills.
